Merida, Mexico Winter/Spring 2010

Program Description

The Spring Quarter is designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of how globalization effects local communities. Participants who wish to extend their study abroad experience, will work with Emiliano Zapata Sur for a total of 100 hours and receive a stipend of $1500. Students will also take two Spanish language classes to supplement their service-learning internship. Students may choose between a selection of Advanced Spanish classes at the Autonomous University of the Yucatan (UADY) in addition to enrolling in a bilingual on-line course.

Requirements

Spanish 104 or higher (proficiency exam to be completed prior to departure). Enrollment in Winter Study Abroad Program in Merida.

Application Deadline

November 6, 2009

Credits

Students will receive 4 credits per Spanish language course and 4 credits for the internship. A total of 12 will be earned.

Housing

Students will continue to live with their Winter Quarter host family.

Costs

In addition to DePaul tuition for 12 credits, there is an estimated program fee of $2000. The fee will cover room and board, three meals a day, and study abroad health insurance. Students must plan their budgets accordingly to cover any additional expenses.
