Community Partners Internships
The Steans Center established the Community Partners Internship program (CPI) to provide DePaul students the opportunity to gain work experience that combines professional development and community involvement. The CPI internship program also works to deepen the Steans Center's relationship with community partners by providing another level of assistance to Community based-Organizations serving communities throughout Chicago-metropolitan area.
Several positions are currently available. For the status of each position, please see below. Please visit us regularly, as positions are updated on a constant basis.

Youth Program Assistant

| Description |
The Youth Program Assistant will work with the Youth Program Staff in all of its demnesions in order to fufill the mission of the program. On an average of 10-15 hours per week, students will be doing a mix of the following components of the Youth Program for Teens (ages 12-16):
o Work in the youth program (3 afternoons per week for 3.5 hours each visit: usually from 2:00-5:30pm but this time can be flexible) [10.5 hours]
• Assist in preparation for the day’s activities within the program
• assist students with school work
• maintain order and an atmosphere of study during homework time
• Assist students with their self-planned activities
o Fulfill administrative responsibilities [2.5]
• Assist with the coordination of DePaul University Student projects and volunteers
• writing letters
• stuffing envelopes
• help with mailings and other office work
o Assist within other departments at Centro Romero, including the After School Program for Youth Ages 7-12, Adult Education Courses, and the HIV/AIDS Outreach Education Program [2.0]
o Students must attend mandatory orientation at the Steans Center.
o Students must attend mandatory reflections twice per quarter. |

| Description |
A Kovler Center intern will gain a better understanding of the challenges/ obstacles facing asylum seekers, refugees and in particular survivors of torture. They will work in an environment that values people first and stresses providing holistic services as a part of an integrated team. They will gain a better understanding of the field of torture treatment in general. They will better understand the inner workings of an established non-profit organization in the field of Human rights. |
Program Coordinator

| Description |
Coordinates development and implementation of the Sunlight African Community Center’s After-School Program Activities. Administers assigned budget, assists in planning and implementing the after-school program and provides oral and written reports to the public and the school system, with approval of the Executive Director. Also facilitates partnerships with appropriate public and private agencies that provide services to the students and families, and the greater Chicago. Work with Executive Director to develop procedures and for operation of the after-school program. Prepares additional proposals for supplemental funding and through developing events. Perform other duties as assigned. |

The primary function of the Outreach Worker is to build relationships with the Paseo Boricua Businesses and DSBDA members. Intern would assist with dissemination of DSBDA materials for events, specific program, and general project to all our different constituencies (businesses, residents, property owners). Conduct interviews or surveys as needed, and facilitate and promote community participation in our events. Assist and support DSBDA Personnel to achieve their respective program & organizational goals. |
| Description |
TCEP is a community-based organization that works in the eastern part of Little Village (sometimes known as Marshall Square). Our organization is a unique blend of direct action organizing and popular education. We also provide leadership development and services to community members and parents from five public schools including Telpochcalli School. TCEP works for social justice by increasing the capacity and participation of Little Village residents in the formation of a more united, educated, safer, and socially prepared community. We will do this by developing and maintaining a resident-directed community cultural center and a new model of community building/organizing.
TCEP operates adult programs five days a week (M-F) generally from 9am – 8pm. And we have quarterly retreats that are weekends with occasional Saturday workshops in between. TCEP is an organization of five staff and various service providers. We also house a youth organizing group called SITY Ollin.
Job Description:
We need an assistant to work with the staff on both the program and organizing. Duties will include but are not limited to:
Data entry/database planning
Mailings
Assist in coordinating events regular meetings, activities and site visits
Plan and participate in quarterly retreats/convivios
Participate in staff meetings
A minimum of 15 hours is required but the arrangement of those hours can be flexible and open to negotiation (can include days and evenings)

Literacy Coordinator Assistant

Intern would assist in the orientation and support of Volunteer students from DePaul University. Also, intern assists in the operation of the Literacy Learning Center, providing administrative support and participation in community education coordination. Responsibilities include:
1. Assists with student registration.
2. Help facilitate meeting times and places and within Erie House for tutors and students.
3. Assists in maintaining students and volunteers records, including Tutor training and students orientations, data -base input.
4. Cultivate and promote an innovative teaching curriculum with volunteer tutors.
5. Others duties as requested.

Chicago Action Program Assistant

The Chicago Action Program (CAP) Assistant will provide key logistical and program support for CAP Director to help the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) enhance programs and extend reach. Responsibilities include:

Special Events Intern

| Description |
The Special Events Intern, with direction from the Development Director, works to elevate the fundraising performance of REST’s two annual (The Sleepwalk and The Boat Cruise) special events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts a marketing and public relations campaign aimed at raising the awareness and attendance of the events. This includes designing marketing and advertising material, researching various advertising options, and obtaining successful media placements.
2. Coordinates mail campaign.
3. Serves as Event Representative at meetings, festivals, etc.
4. Solicits raffle prizes.
5. Assists with logistical planning.
6. Provides support with miscellaneous tasks consistent with the needs of the events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be working towards a bachelor’s degree, have coursework in a related capacity, a commitment to helping homeless adults, computer proficiency (Microsoft Office), good communication skills and flexibility. |
Project JAM! Assistant

Hours: 2:45-5:15PM (minimum of 3 days a week required).

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Help plan and run after-school program for 8-12 year olds at Jordan School in North Rogers Park.
-Help direct recreational and educational activities such as outdoor sports, organized indoor games, tutoring, arts and crafts and field trips.
-Assist in the organization of social workshop programs helping participants in the areas of communication, anger management, and multi-cultural awareness, problem solving strategies, conflict resolution, and drug/alcohol awareness.
-Other duties as assigned |
Interest and/or experience in working with youth-at-risk and energy to work and play with children at the end of the school day. Reliability is essential in order to establish and maintain a good relationship with program participants. |
| Description |
The Crisis Center Program provides services to youth, families and individuals who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless. The Solid Ground Supportive Housing Program is a residence for homeless male youth aged 16-21. |
Responsibilities:
•Prepare for major events: a September press conference, Annual Fall Gala and a Holiday Toy Drive for families.
•Assist with the development of a new fundraising campaign targeting the Humboldt Park and Logan Square business community. This position would be responsible for front-end research, business outreach, and efficient follow-up.
•Help maintain a donor portfolio that includes government agencies, organizations, corporations, foundations and individuals through administrative support
•Update press contacts and assist in production of press materials
•Conduct outreach with other local non-profit organizations to form linkages
•Organize clothing closet donations

Education Initiative Intern

An intern would work with the organization's education staff and be provided a hands-on opportunity to work in the areas of education advocacy, policy, research, community planning, and community organizating around the Peer Parent Education Network.
The student may help in the coordination, facilitation, and participation of school and community meetings; they may conduct online research and best practices on the education gap, success of African American students in college, parent involvement, and school funding and quality; they may assist with the implementation of strategies that emanate from our program areas; they may develop and disseminate fact sheets about our program successes and research we have of that supports our work; they will enhance their own communication skills with diverse youth, parents, and our partner schools; the student may assist with grant writing and special education events and activities; finally, they may assist with daily office tasks, such as mailings, letter writing, and making phone calls to partners, parents, and youth. |

The Work Study Assistant position supports the community organizing work of Pilsen Alliance in all its dimensions in order to carry out the daily functions of the organization and fulfill its mission. |

The MGR Foundation seeks a work-study intern to assist the Team M3 Program Director (a Youth Running and Mentorship Program) and CareTeam (a Volunteer Program) in program management, supporting day-to-day administration, operations, communications and logistics. Specific duties include: drafting and producing marketing, promotional or press materials for Team M3 program and CareTeam events; writing articles for the monthly newsletter or MGRF News Blog; develop communication pieces including emails, donation requests, acknowledgment letters, press documents and thank yous; data entry and analysis, creating reports on survey data; prepare program materials for volunteers, mentors, students; assist with race and event preparations; and other office administrative support and special projects as needed. |

Development Assistant

| Description |
The function of Development is to raise the funds necessary to operate the school. Ninety percent of the school’s general operating costs ($2 million annually) are raised through this office, and the other ten percent is paid by families through tuition. Development also serves as the public relations and marketing department for the school. It is a means by which we keep the name of the school visible and update our donors. An assistant in this department would work 10-15 hours each week during regular business hours and would be responsible for the following: organizing and editing publications; writing press releases for the local newspapers; attending school events; helping students take pictures and write stories; data entry of gifts and donations; helping at donor events; managing spreadsheets; and other administrative tasks, as needed. |
Qualifications for this position include: mature, flexible, self-starter attidude; socially conscious; spiritually conscience; fundraising/development/philanthropy background; strong writing skills; and comfortable navigating Chicago via public transportation.

Pedro Albizu Campos Highschool (PACHS) works with students to provide a unique educational experience, linking classroom instruction and community involvement founded in 1972 as part of the struggle of the Puerto Rican community of Chicago. Parents, students and teachers worked to build a school that would teach pride in Puerto Rican culture, history and language. Fundamental philosophy is that students are participants in the pedagogical process. PACHS places emphasis on the student's abilities to conceptualize the world around them and act upon it to bring change. |
